North Seattle Community College is easily accessible by bus. Six Metro Transit
bus routes directly serve the campus, and the nearby Northgate Transit Center
is a major transfer hub for Metro, Community Transit, and Sound Transit routes.
NSCC has special
bus passes and other incentives
to encourage the use of public transit by students and employees.
Metro's Trip Planner can help you find the most convenient route to campus.
Bus Service to Campus
The following King County Metro Transit routes provide direct service to the NSCC campus:
In addition, the nearby Northgate Transit Center (just east of the NSCC campus on the other side of Interstate-5), provides convenient access to many King County Metro, Community Transit, and Sound Transit bus routes. From the Northgate Transit Center, you can transfer to Metro routes 5, 16, 75, 345, or 346 to get to campus. You can also walk from the transit center to campus in about 15 minutes via the North 92nd Street bridge over Interstate-5.
Printed schedules for many common Metro routes are available from 3 locations on campus:
- First floor of the College Center building in the hallway leading to the Cafeteria
- Security Office
- Second floor of the College Center building across from the Cashier's Office
Additional bus route and transit information is available directly from the public transit websites:
Bus Passes
Students and employees may purchase a special transit pass called GoPass that is created specifically for the Seattle Community College District (SCCD) by King County Metro. The pass allows unlimited travel on Metro and Sound Transit buses, and the Sounder commuter train, during peak and off-peak hours in all zones. It is valid for the entire quarter.
Any student may purchase a quarterly GoPass with proof of enrollment from the
Cashier's office. Students enrolled for 10
or more credits may purchase the pass at a special discount. The
current cost for the GoPass is
available from the Fees page.
Faculty and staff members may purchase a GoPass and/or parking permit according to their job classification:
- Exempt, classified, full-time faculty, and part-time faculty working at least 50% FTE for more than two consecutive quarters may obtain a GoPass for $30 and the TMP/CTR fee. In addition, a parking permit can (optionally) be obtained by paying the parking fee. Fees may be paid through a payroll deduction, and passes can be picked up from the Transportation Coordinator. Check with the Transportation Coordinator to see if you are eligible for GoPass and parking payroll deductions.
- Hourly staff working at least 50% FTE, and part-time faculty working at least 50% FTE who have not worked more than two consecutive quarters at or above 50% FTE, may obtain either a GoPass or parking permit (but not both) by paying the TMP/CTR fee and GoPass fee or the parking fee respectively. The fee will need to be paid at the Cashier's Office. Before visiting the Cashier, a quarterly transportation application form must be completed at your campus department to verify your percentage of employment.
- Hourly staff working less than 50% FTE, and part-time faculty working less than 50% FTE, can purchase either a GoPass or a parking permit. The fee must be paid at the Cashier's Office. Before visiting the Cashier, a quarterly transportation application form must be completed at your campus department to verify your percentage of employment.
Lost GoPass
Students reporting a lost GoPass during the first two weeks of the quarter can purchase a replacement GoPass, if they are still available. The cost for a replacement pass is the same as the cost for a student taking less than 10 credits.
Employees who have lost a GoPass should contact the Transportation Coordinator about cost and availability of a replacement pass.
Transit Subsidies
Transit Subsidies are available for both eligible students and employees who are not well served by a GoPass, and who do not purchase a campus parking permit. A student can receive $60/quarter and an employee can receive up to $58/month for using the ferry service as a walk-on passenger or a transit system other than Metro or Sound Transit.
