Parking and Carpool

Photo: vehicles parked in the East parking lot Motorists are urged to purchase a parking permit and to park on campus. Out of courtesy to residents of the Licton Springs neighborhood, please drive slowly through residential streets, lower the volume of stereos, and park on campus. If you must park on a city street, avoid a ticket and towing charges—abide by posted parking restrictions, do not park on lawns or planting strips, and do not block driveways. Note that city ordinance requires you be at least five feet from a driveway.

Permits

Quarterly parking permits for students are issued on a first come, first served basis at the Cashier's office. Please bring a copy of your paid enrollment receipt when you come for your permit. Rates vary according to the number of credits you are taking. Current parking rates are available from the Fees page.

Discounted carpool permits are available for both students and employees. A carpool is defined as two or more individuals commuting together for at least 50% of the carpool's longest individual commute distance. Participants must be old enough to be eligible for a Washington State driver's license. Students must present their class schedules when applying for the carpool program, to demonstrate that they are on campus together at least 3 times per week. Employees may carpool with a partner whose destination is away from the campus. Carpool routes must meet a standard of reasonableness determined by the campus Transportation Coordinator. Special carpool parking is provided for those with carpool permits. Contact the Transportation Coordinator during the first 2 weeks of each quarter to register your carpool and obtain a permit.

Short-term visitor permits can be purchased from the automated dispensers located in the visitor parking lots for 25 cents or $2, depending on the time frame you choose. One-day permits ($2) are available from either the automated dispenser located in the South parking lot (valid for day of purchase only), or the Cashier's Office (valid for a future date). This permit allows you to park in any lot except for Visitors or the garage.

Permits for visitors, guests, and guest lecturers are available from the security office. Requests for guest permits must be made by a campus official to Jeff Caldwell, Safety and Security Manager, and must include: the name of the sponsoring group; date, time, and location of the meeting, class or seminar; and the number of people attending. Guest permits are only for use by visitors, guests or guest lecturers. The guest permit includes detailed maps of the surrounding area and campus. Please allow at least one day processing time, plus the time you needed to get the permits to the guests.

Parking is free on weekends for students who are attending classes on Saturday. Outside groups renting facilities at the college on weekends may also park for free.

Where to Park

See the Campus Map for parking lot locations.

Students with valid parking permits may park in any lot except the Visitor lots (reserved for visitors) and the underground garages (reseved for faculty and staff).

Motorcycles and motor scooters may park for free (no permit required) in the motorcycle parking area located in the College Center garage. Lockers are available in that area, also free of charge.

Visitors can use the visitor parking lots located near the main entrance to the college (just east of College Way North, between North 95th and North 97th streets). Permits are available from automated dispensers. Six spaces in the visitor lots are reserved for disabled visitors displaying a valid state disabled placard or license. Students, faculty, and staff members (including those with disabled permits) may not park in the visitor lots at any time.

Disabled students, faculty and staff members, who display a valid state issued disabled parking permit, and a valid SCCD parking permit may park in any disabled parking space except the disabled parking spaces in the visitor parking lot. NSCC exceeds the ADA requirements for accessible parking with 36 dedicated parking spaces (six are van-accessible) located throughout the campus lots and garages.
